Wheatmore, recorded in 1260 as newly cultivated land, sits opposite Ashfurlong Hall, which Birmingham solicitor Thomas Colmore bought around 1860. The crooked old Tamworth Lane was replaced by the present road in 1922.
In the 1760s, Four Oaks Hall's Mr Luttrell sent servants after two highwaymen at his gate. Two centuries earlier, Bishop Vesey had built cottages near Collett's Brook specifically to police the road.
Tamworth Road's planning record is anchored by its Grade II* listed Toll House, which won consent for roof and wall repairs in 2021, while the Green Belt boundary locks the land east of the road against large-scale development.
A railway bridge with a 15-foot 6-inch height limit marks the road's character as sharply as the crematorium's 10 acres, opened in 1964. From Slade Road, Collett's Brook traces the parish boundary for several miles alongside.
Mr Valentine bought 67 acres at Powells Field, built a decorative-tile kiln, went bankrupt, and the kiln has been cold since 1836. Ashfurlong Hall itself was reshaped in 1804 for Thomas Vaughton, High Sheriff of Warwickshire.
