Birmingham Road became a turnpike in 1806, then the 1862 LNWR railway transformed Wylde Green from a hamlet of three farmhouses and seven cottages into a commuter suburb. The Georgian Poplars survives as the corridor's oldest visible witness.
In 2006, Birmingham City Council and then the Planning Inspectorate both rejected a bid to demolish The Poplars for three new houses. Two years later, Stoney Leasow itself appeared, with number 8 selling as a new build for £445,000 in August 2008.
Wylde Green Farm's 164 acres straddled Birmingham Road down to the E Brook valley, and Cow Lane, the track that gave the farm access to its fields, still runs from Kempson Avenue to Walmley golf course.
Wylde Green Farm's 1790 auction listed an Ancient Mansion, brewhouse and orchard; by 1882 tenant J. Conchar had turned it into a horse stud. During the Second World War, part of the farm served as an eating base for American servicemen billeted in Sutton Coldfield.
