By 1900 the former nursery ground of the John Hurle estate had become Hurle Crescent, Hurle Road and Chantry Road. In the 1870s the southern portion was taken for the railway and the coal yard at Clifton Down Station.
A garage plot at the rear of 13 Hurle Crescent gained consent in 2017 as a double-storey outbuilding, then progressed to a proposed separate dwelling of 70sqm. Separately, 30 Hurle Crescent received a lawful-development certificate in 2024 for two basement residential units.
The Clifton Down Tunnel opened in 1875 after 250,000 tons of rock were blasted out with 70 tons of gunpowder, and the Pembroke Road ventilation shaft that still stands near the crescent had reached rail level by May 1872. The tunnel runs as a single line, and Clifton Down station sits about 400 metres from the street.
No. 7, called The Haven, was home to Rear Admiral Edward Grey Hulton and his wife Louisa. Their son, Lieutenant Alan Edward Grey Hulton, a barrister, died on 6 June 1915 aged 29, leaving effects of £4,618.
