By 1914, Archway Road was an addressed residential lane, with Mrs Barker at No. 2 and Thomas John Randall at No. 3. A century later, Bown of London's No. 1 was converted into 11 flats.
One documented incident places Archway Road in the crime record: a midnight stop in April 2018 yielded four arrests and roughly 250 grams of cannabis seized from a single vehicle.
No. 2 yielded 10 homes on just 0.06 hectares; No. 1 gained consent for 11 flats. Double yellow lines were extended across the Queen Street mouth after repeated sightline conflicts.
Archway Road is a back-street off the north side of Queen Street, with a warehouse physically extending over the lane. A Victorian railway tunnel opened here in 1863, closed in 1965, and now runs guided tours four days a week.
The Duke of Kent opened the Queen Street tunnel entrance on 1 August 1939; Winston Churchill was ushered inside during a raid the following year. Yards away, the Waitrose site was home to Tomson and Wotton, a brewery with records going back to before 1634, which traded until a 1968 takeover.
