In 1901 the entire future estate was farmland, mapped as Kettle House, Warren Farm and Pool Farm. By the early 1920s housing replaced Witton Lodge Farm, and by 1989 structural failure had condemned 908 homes.
Nearby streets have appeared in police, court and parliamentary records: a single Hurstway address yielded almost 100 zombie knives, and in 2018 a 30-strong machete gang attacked a shop on Witton Lodge Road.
Residents formed Witton Lodge Community Association in 1994 to resist demolition, and went on to oversee the replacement of around 900 structurally defective homes, with about 45% of the inter-war estate rebuilt after 1995.
Land immediately south-west of Oscott College was not built up until after 1970, and Hawthorn Brook drains the wider area, flooding Witton Lodge Road in June 2005.
College Road follows the ancient Staffordshire-Warwickshire boundary, named after St Mary's College which arrived in 1838. The 1920s estate still pivots around the Ring roundabout, and a park keeper's cottage nearby became the Witton Lakes Eco Hub in 2022.
