College Road follows the ancient county boundary between Staffordshire and Warwickshire, named after St Mary's College, which arrived in 1838. In 1989, Birmingham City Council issued 908 compulsory demolition orders for structurally unsound Boot houses across Perry Common.
College Road itself traces the old Staffordshire-Warwickshire county line, while nearby Oscott College's main block has held Grade II* listed status since 1952. In 1841 only eight families lived at Baldmoor Lake, a hamlet along Chester Road now long gone.
Oscott College's hilltop chapel, open since 1838, hosted Newman's 'Second Spring' sermon in 1852 and a papal visit in 2010. The college runs public tours that have continued for over a decade.
