Goodrich House at No.137 dates to at least 1762 and was compulsorily purchased by Bristol Sanitary Authority in 1883. The street also holds a c1820 house disguised by its slope and an intact 11-house terrace from c1830.
The street's crime record is fragmentary. A 1986 mugging left a man with facial injuries after three attackers stole £171, and a resident, Macey-Morris, was later convicted of two attempted rapes and two indecent assaults from the 1980s.
In November 2025 the Planning Inspectorate dismissed a listed building consent appeal at No.127, finding that vacuum glazing and insulated lime render would harm the building's significance. Separate 2026 applications at Nos.24 and 78 propose solar panels, refuse stores and access alterations.
Montpelier's streets follow old field tracks, bending and climbing in response to buried brooks, with the 1874 railway station triggering rapid development on the lower slopes. York Road's long southward gardens trace the earliest Georgian building line, chosen for panoramic city views.
York Cottage at No.72 carries a plaque dated 1822, and in 1957 a pet shop at No.39 was recorded in the London Gazette. Most vividly, DJ David Jacobs opened an extension at Goodrich House in the late 1970s, when it housed nine girls as Springfield Further Education Centre.
